The Schedule

We got our tentative schedule in the mail today. The drugs are listed. The dates are there. My eyes went right to big dates.

Remember us wanting to keep this a secret from our family? The 'date' for our retrieval and all that jazz is during Grumps' parents visit. I feel sick about it all. There is no way to hide the doctors appointment, shots in the butt or me on bed rest.

When I shared the 'dates' with Grumps he wasn't impressed. I wanted to hear, "No worries dear. It will all work out. They will be glad to help out during that time." Instead I got, "Great I guess we will be telling them. Great I guess you will have to stay home when we go out. Great they wanted to do stuff with you too. Great...." UGH!

Now I am all anxious and yuck inside. Why can't things work out the way they are supposed to?
Oh and I will get to bring my lupron injections with us to Iris' wedding. How do you take needles on a plane in your carry on?

Bummer about the dates. Any chance you could push back their visit? On the other hand, if they're anything like my in-laws, I'd welcome the chance to stay home while they went out!

Either way, I hope it works out

Ugh. There's never a good time for IF treatments, but this convergence of events is enough to give anyone an upset stomach. Can I get you some Tums?

Oh no! The best laid plans, huh? Could you tell them you were having a medical procedure and would like to change the date of their trip?

And as for needles in the carry-on, it's all good. I just flew a couple of weeks ago and read the list of "approved items".

Sorry timing doesn't seem to be working out. Ugh.

When I've flown, I've also just gotten a note from the doctor to keep with the needles. It has never been an issue, but just in case. I never want to check them.

That really sucks. I guess there is no way to reschedule their visit. I guess I would approach it as I would any medical situation. If you were scheduled to get your appendix out that weekend, would they still come or would they give you your space?

Offer still stands to move in with me :-)

Well, that sucks with the in-laws and Grumps response. But I'm sure it was just his initial reaction and he will be supportive.
On the other hand, I think you'll be okay with the plane issue. Just double check the guidelines and I'd do what Mel said, get a note from the doctor to keep with them.
Good Luck!

Thank you for your comment on my blog re: the Lupron. I am hanging on to as many positives as I can. Seems to go one way or the other - you either get jacked by it or it's nothing at all.

Good wishes for this cycle - traveling and timing always lends itself to the "excitement" doesn't it? :0)

Like the others said, the needles aren't a big deal on the plane. I carry my needle in my purse and they've never even looked at it. :)

As for the timing... it's just 1 week in your life. It's not like you'll never get out of the house again. Is it inconvenient.. heck yeah, but in the big picture, it's a small moment in time. The focus needs to be on you and your health and your goals.
Hang in there Sunny!!! You can do this!!!

You don't have to tell them WHAT medical procedure is happening on that date. Just that you're having a fertility test or a minor medical procedure or having your girly bits looked at or maybe having a wart removed or something. They don't need to know the whole story. And there's no reason they need to see you getting shots in the butt. That can be done behind closed doors.

As for taking the injections on the plane...not a problem. Injectible medications and the needles are allowed items, but they have to have the original prescription label on the drug. If you're concerned, call the airline and ask for guidance. Whatever you do, Do NOT check them in your luggage.

That sucks on the timing. But it IS a medical procedure (or series of procedures), and as Mel said, deserves the same respect and privacy as any medical event. I know it's uncomfortable navigating that stuff but you have us all in your pocket as you do so.

It's so frustrating when you have to share something so personal and private - something that only you two should know in the first place - with not only a team of medical professionals but also other people.

I always found that telling other people usually resulted in a variety of annoyances. It's tough.

Agree that you should make something up. If you didn't want to open Pandora's Box in the first place - don't feel like you have to now.

I'm sorry. That is pretty bad timing. I'm hoping it works out for you.

Sorry about the timing sweetie. I just wanted to say that I've traveled on planes with tons of meds and needles. I just kept them in a separate bag as carry ons and said to the TSA agent: I have medication in here. They didn't bat an eye, no problem.
